Our Applegate Valley tour is journey into the heart of Southern Oregon wine country and culture. The selected Vineyards we want to share exemplify the best of winemaking in this region. All these Vineyards are special in their own ways and are wonderful reflections of the families that have created them. Yes, these are all family owned and operated! The common thread that ties them all together is the dedication and the passion each family has committed to creating these amazing places.
Designed for serious wine drinkers with an affinity for the winemaking process. From homemade cheeses to Mediterranean style platters, Spanish style Tempranillos to backroom bottles, we dive deep into exclusive wine selections and farm-fresh food pairings at three family operated wineries, all nestled in the Applegate Valley (Wooldridge Creek, Cowhorn, Red Lily). Later, let’s go for a stroll in Jacksonville, a picturesque town harkening back to the Gold Rush era.
If we were asked pick a vineyard that exemplifies a Southern Oregon Family Vineyard this would be it. It is a modern family of a sort that began back in the mid 70’s. Now, some 45 years later Ted, Mary, Greg & Kara’s family have created something rather beautiful and unique. They have built lives that are unpretentious, matter a fact, simple, honest and full of passion. What more could you ask for?
We love this Winery because they are really on the vanguard of creating a truly sustainable model for vineyard and winemaking ventures. Barbara & Bill Steele, The co-founders & Winemakers are simply but leaders. They are leading the way in the local wine industry through implementation of best Biodynamics & Organic practice for their vineyard and estate. What they have created truly is the model for responsible agriculture and best business practices. They are committed to farming and building in an ethical way that respects the land while actually enhancing and enriching the physical environment as well as giving to and supporting the local community. They are redefining what it means to be a successful Vineyard and producer of award winning wines.
We would consider Red Lily the actualization of an idea that exemplifies the power of romance. From the start, Les & Rachael thought that creating a vineyard was a “romantic” notion some 20 years ago. Though a lot of hard work, passion and patients they have created something truly wonderful. The first time entering the Winery one literally feels as though they have crossed over into something almost magical. Crossing a small bridge over the Applegate river one in transported into a very special place that has to be seen to be totally appreciated. Every aspect of the Winery has been thoughtfully considered and the experience is will always be memorable.
